Mumbai: Former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar passed away on Wednesday after prolonged illness. He was 77.
The left-handed batsman played 37 Tests and compiled 2113 runs at an average of 31.07.

He made his international debut in 1966 against West Indies.
One of the finest slip fielders, Wadekar led the team to series wins in 1971 against England and West Indies, the first in a foreign location. He continued as the captain during the England tour in 1974 and represented the national team in its first ever One-day International.
After his retirement, Wadekar also served as the manager of the Indian cricket team and chaired the selection committee
