Bhubaneswar: Good news and bad news. Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has tied up Google Drive to allow unlimited backup of your videos, texts and images. The bad – if you do not update the app, it will start deleting a year old data starting November 12.
“Starting November 12, 2018, WhatsApp backups will no longer count towards the Google Drive storage quota,” a statement from WhatsApp read.
“Furthermore, WhatsApp backups that haven’t been updated in more than one year will be automatically removed from Google Drive storage,” it added.
To back up data from your WhatsApp, open the app and click on the 3 dots at the top right corner to access the menu. Open ‘settings’, then ‘chats’ and then click on ‘Chat back-up’. Select ‘Back Up’ to immediately backup everything to your Google Drive. Then under ‘Google Drive Settings’, set it to backup automatically daily or weekly as you want. Select ‘include videos’ if you want to backup your videos as well. Videos will take more space. You can choose to backup over WiFi or Cellular data. If you do not have access to WiFi, choose mobile data and make sure your data plan is good enough to accommodate it.
