Boy & Girl Handed Over To GRP For ‘Love Jihad’ At Berhampur Rly Station
Berhampur: A Hindu religious organisation has handed over a young boy and girl of different religions to GRP on allegation of love jihad in Odish’s Berhampur city.
According to sources, a 24-year-old girl of Patrapur of Ganjam district had developed friendship with a boy of different religion while both were working in a private company in Hyderabad. The girl had come to her home a few days back on leave. Later, she had called her friend to her place on a visit.
Both had booked ticket to return to Hyderabad and gone to Berhampur railway station to board the train on Friday. Some activists of the religious organisation raised doubt about them as the boy was talking in Hindi and the girl in Odia.
Suspecting that the boy had trapped the girl for love jihad, the activists confronted both of them. They questioned the boy about his background and the purpose of his visit. As he could not give satisfactory answer, they handed over the couple to Government Railway Police (GRP) at the station.
However, speaking to media persons, the girl said the boy was her friend as both of them were working in the same company in Hyderabad. He had come to accompany her back to their working place, she added.
The GRP has detained the boy and the girl and informed their parents. “We have intimated the girl’s parents. Necessary steps will be taken after discussion with them,” said GRP officer-in-charge JP Nayak.
