Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday detained five persons in connection with a group clash that broke out between the residents of Narendrapur and Kakudiapara villages under Nemala police limits in Cuttack district the previous day.

Meanwhile, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi and Cuttack Rural SP Madhav Chandra Sahoo visited the clash site and requested the villagers to maintain peace in the locality.

“The detainees are being questioned and the restriction imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC will be in force for today. Even though the situation is under control, as many as five platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident”, the SP informed.

The district administration had on Monday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC at Narendrapur after an irate mob torched a police jeep following the group clash.

According to available information, two youths got into a heated argument on the issue of overtaking on the road. One of them called some of his associates from Kakudiapada village. Later, they barged into the other youth’s house and attacked him. A woman and a minor boy were also injured in the attack.

Moments later, the locals accompanied by a few members of Bajrang Dal staged a road blockade near the minority community slum Kakudiapada village by burning tyres.

On receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators. However, a group of people set a police vehicle on fire.
