Mumbai: To promote gender equality in the nation’s most-loved game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced implementation of a pay equity policy for contracted Indian women cricketers.

The Indian women cricketers will now be paid the same fee as their male counterparts.

“Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the apex council for their support,” BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah said.

I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers.
