Malkangiri: Drug mafias are now devising new means to smuggle and transport ganja, owing to stern measures taken by police to stop the same, informed Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.
“Malkangiri police have intensified night patrolling and a 24-hour naaka has been deployed in all police stations of the district. As a result, ganja smugglers are finding it difficult to transport ganja to other state like Andhra Pradesh or Chhattisgarh,” the SP said.
Highlighting the achievements of the district police in successful crackdown of the illegal trade, Meena said around 14, 443 kg of ganja has been seized and 114 peddlers arrested till August 31 this year, which is more than double the previous year.
The statement of the SP came after an ambulance carrying ganja worth lakhs of rupees was seized by police on Mathili-Khairaput road in the district last night.
The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels while attempting to escape from the spor after seeing a police patrolling team.
Following this, the vehicle skidded off the road and the driver fled the place immediately.
The cops recovered a huge cache of contraband stashed in three sacks.
