BJD Accuses Odisha BJP Of Doing ‘Dirty’ Politics Over Gobinda Sahu Death
Bhubaneswar: After the opposition parties targeted the Odisha government over the death of Gobinda Sahu, prime accused in Mamita Meher murder case, the ruling BID on Wednesday hit back, accusing BJP of doing ”dirty’ politics over the alleged suicide of a murder accused.
In a statement in Bhubaneswar, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said the state witnessed a lot of hue and cry after the murder of Mamita over a year ago. The saffron party had made the incident a major political issue that time also, he said.
However, the incident was investigated thoroughly under the supervision of a retired district judge, Mohanty said and sought to know as to why BJP is trying to do politics over the alleged suicide of Sahu, who was the prime accused in Mamita murder case.
“Why is BJP is now shedding tears for the death of Gobinda Sahu?,” he asked and said it seems that BJP has no faith in the judiciary and the judicial system.
Stating that there are many other issues over which politics can be done, Mohanty said the saffron party should have faith in the judicial system and refrain from doing petty politics over Sahu’s death.
The BJD leader’s statement came after senior leaders of BJP and Congress hit out at the state government alleging that Sahu appeared to have been killed to protect a former Minister.
State BJP women wing president Smrutii Patnaik and state party general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan alleged that Sahu was killed before his scheduled appearance before a court in connection with the murder case to protect a senior leader.
Similar allegation was made by Congress leader and MLA Santosh Singh Saluja.
