Why Was Cop With ‘Mental Disorder’ Issued Pistol? Asks BJP & Demands CBI Probe Into Odisha Minister Naba Das Killing

Bhubaneswar: Demanding a CBI probe into the killing of Odisha Minister Naba Kishore Das, BJP stalwart and Leader of Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra on Monday sought to know as to why a service pistol was issued to the policeman who fired at the BJD leader if he was mentally unsound.

Alleging that there was a major conspiracy behind the incident, Mishra said the crime branch investigation ordered by the state government will not be able to unravel truth. “I am not satisfied with the probe being conducted by the crime branch,” he said.

There must be a thorough and impartial investigation into the whole episode by CBI, the BJP leader said. If not CBI, there should be a magisterial level probe, he said.

Claiming that involvement of big people and senior officers in the incident is suspected, he said attempts are being made to project that the accused police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was suffering from psychological disorder.

“If the police personnel was really suffering from mental disorder, why was he issued a service pistol,” the senior BJP leader said, adding that many questions remain unanswered and there must be a CBI probe to get the truth.

Meanwhile, Brajarajnagar IIC has lodges an FIR against ASI Gopal Das, who was deployed for traffic clearance duty. Das was accused of shooting the Minister from his service pistol from a very close range with a clear intention to kill him.

It may be noted here that Naba Das was shot at by the ASI from close range when he was proceeding to attend an official event at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district on Sunday. He succumbed to injuries later in the evening.
