Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s students and young professionals were upbeat about the Union Budget 2023 presented in the Parliament on Wednesday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

OdishaBytes also spoke to some youngsters, most of whom were positive about the Budget.

“The main focus of the budget was capital expenditure which shows futuristic views of the Government. Popularising millets will not just boost agricultural sector but also promote sustainable growth which will be beneficial for us (youngsters); focusing on millet will also help in ensuring food security of the nation and ensure we don’t suffer like our neighbouring nation Pakistan,” said chartered accountant Ronak Agrawal, who is doing his Articleship.

“The increase in income tax rebate limit is good news for the younger generation as they are not paid much in their early years of employment… this will help them cope with inflation,” he added.

Sai Jagannath, a 20-year-old Forex trader from Bhubaneswar, welcomed the increase in income tax rebate limit.

“This move of the Government will not only increase people’s purchase power but also ensure high cash flow in the market… The exemption of custom duties on import of lithium ions batteries will make EVs cheaper and more accessible to the public, which is good for the younger generation as it promotes sustainable development,” Sai observed.

“The allocation of funds to eradicate sickle cell anaemia from the country by 2047 is a great step taken by the government. This will help us to be productive and live a healthy life,” remarked Priyanshu Chourasia, a student of Birla Global University.

Bokari Sai Prasanna, also of Birla Global University, spoke about the allocation of funds in the medical sector.

“Allocating funds for establishment of more nursing schools will be beneficial for the youth, they will have more learning and employment opportunities,” she felt.

There was some criticism about lack of emphasis on the tourism sector.

“India has a lot of culture but not enough tourism infrastructure to showcase it,” pointed out Birla Global University student Adrija Duttaray.

“More emphasis was needed on tourism infrastructure in the country as it can boost GDPs of states as well as the nation,” said another student Subham Mishra.
