All-Party Meeting To Decide Action Against Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s Derogatory Remarks
Bhubaneswar: Taking strong exception to the derogatory and obscene remarks of Abhijit Iyer Mitra, a friend of former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, on Odisha, Lord Jagannath and even the Chief Minister on social media, Speaker Pradip Amat on Thursday convened an all-party meeting to decide on the action to be initiated against him.
As soon as the session began at 10.30 am, the Speaker cancelled the Question Hour session in the Assembly to discuss the privilege motion for debate on the audacious remarks of Abhijit Iyer Mitra brought by the leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra.

Initiating the discussion in the House, Mishra said the statements of Abhijit, who had insulted the Odia race and language, would destabilise communal harmony of Odisha. “I demand that let he be summoned to the state and the House should take a decision on the quantum of punishment for him,” he pointed out.
Participating in the discussion, BJD members Arun Sahu, Pratap Jena, Amar Prasad Satpathy and Samir Dash came down heavily on the abusive and insulting remarks of Abhijit and demanded stern action against him.
They were also supported by the Opposition BJP members Pradip Purohit and leader of the BJP legislature party KV Singhdeo and Congress member and Opposition chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
Taking note of the unanimous opinion from the members cutting across party lines, the Speaker adjourned the discussion and convened an all-party meeting to decide the future course of action against Abhijit.

Not caring about the discussion in the State Assembly on his statements, Abhijit has twitted “Journos will be journos. What worries me is that this is actually being discussed in the state legislature. Legislators who don’t understand the law are a menace”.

Apart from his derogatory statement on Odisha and Lord Jagannath, Abhijit has also posted unpalatable remarks against the Chief Minister.
“The joys of having the “Odia Pride” brigade come after me & the Odisha Assembly ruckus over my remarks, controlled by a guy @Naveen_Odisha @CMO_Odisha who doesn’t even know Odia & has to have his speeches transliterated in English,” he has stated.

Even Abhijit has also jeered at the journalist fraternity of Odisha.
“Dear Purchased presstitutes & paid “outragers” in Odisha! I don’t mind you burning my effigies, but at least use some nice saucy pics of me please. Unlike your pathetic English or your retard level cognitive abilities, my aesthetic sensibilities are quite refined,” was his statement which has been posted on twitter.
