New York: A six-year-old girl shot her grandmother from the backseat of a moving car in Florida, Fox News reported.
North Port Police Department said in a press release that the minor found her 57-year-old grandmother’s gun in the backseat and accidentally shot her in the lower back as she fiddled with the firearm.
“A 57-year-old woman reported that her 6-year-old granddaughter got hold of a firearm in the backseat of the vehicle and accidentally fired a single shot through the driver’s seat, striking her in the lower back,” police said.
Luckily, the woman was able to drive home. After she called emergency helpline number 911, the woman was airlifted to a hospital with “non-threatening injuries.”
“This is an unfortunate example of the importance of gun safety. Although it appears that everyone is going to be okay, it could have been much worse, not just for the grandma but for the child,” Police chief Todd Garrison said.
Following investigation, police found that the shooting was completely accidental.
