Bhubaneswar: A sanitation worker of BMC has won the hearts of denizens of Bhubaneswar after she returned a gold chain worth more than Rs 3 lakh to its rightful owner.
As per reports, Swachha Sathi (sanitation worker) Puja Singh had gone to collect domestic garbage as per her daily task in Salashree Vihar of the city on Sunday. While sorting out the garbage on Tuesday, she came across the gold chain in a basket. She immediately informed her higher official and handed over the chain weighing around 60 gram to him.
The officials of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched an investigation to ascertain the owner of the gold chain. They could know that it was collected along with garbage from Sailashree Vihar. Further investigation led to identify its owner as Bibhuti Bhusan Sethi.
They contacted Sethi and called him to the BMC office. After verifying the document produced by Sethi in support of his claim as rightful owner of the chain, they handed it over to him. Sethi said while performing puja in his house on Saturday, he had taken off the chain and kept it with puja materials. On Sunday morning, the puja materials along with the chain were dumped in the garbage box which was collected by Puja.
In appreciation of the honest gesture on the part of Puja, BMC commissioner Vijay Amrut Kulange felicitated her in presence of other officials on the BMC premises.
