Odisha Cop Accuses Senior Of Mental Harassment, Offers To Resign

Jajpur: A police sub-inspector (SI) of Dharmashala police station in Odisha’s Jajpur district has offered to quit, alleging mental harassment by higher-ups and a threat to his life.

The SI, Radhanath Das, in a written complaint to Jajpur SP Vineet Agarwal accused Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Rakesh Tripathy of burdening him with more cases, including those pertaining to POCSO and rape, and forcing him to work extra hours.

Das further wrote about being denied leave to visit his ailing mother. “I am mentally depressed as I am not able to pay a visit to my mother, who is on her deathbed. Instead of taking up sensational cases himself, he is assigning juniors to investigate them,” he alleged.

Stating that the IIC had been harassing him deliberately and threatening him to put in trouble, the SI sought the SP’s permission to resign from his job.

The mental health of cops has become a concern for Odisha Police since an ASI, who claimed to be suffering from bipolar disorder, pulled the trigger on health minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29.
