Bhubaneswar: Even as the ruling BJD on Tuesday staged a protest in Bhubaneswar opposing discontinuation of PMAY by the Centre, Panchayatiraj and Drinking Water Minister Pradip Kumar Amat said the allocation of houses to the state in 2021-22 was highest in the last 4 years.

Replying to a question by Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, the Minister informed the House that the Centre allocated total 18,45,284 houses to Odisha under its Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in the last 4 financial years from 2019-20 to 2022-23.

Giving yearwise break-up of the allocation, the minister said 6,84,433 houses were allocated in 2019-20 fiscal, 2,01,333 in 2020-21, 8,17,513 in 2021-22 and 1,42,005 houses in 2022-23 financial year.

The minister further said total 18,78,324 houses were sanctioned by the Centre between 2016-17 and 2020-21 and 17,10,218 houses have been completed. The final process for identification of beneficiaries under the scheme is underway to allocate the houses sanctioned in 2021-22 and 2022-23, he added.

Earlier in the day, the women’s wing of BJD staged a protest in front of Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar against the Centre’s stepmotherly attitude to Odisha. They blamed the BJP lawmakers from Odisha for discontinuation of PMAY for the people of the state.
