Holi Mirth Marred In Odisha: 6 Drown, 1 Untraceable
Balangir/Kendrapada: Holi celebrations in some parts of Odisha were marred after six persons drowned and another went missing while bathing on Wednesday.
According to sources, two brothers were taking a bath in Brahmani river in Kendrapada district after playing Holi. However, they slipped deep into the water due to strong current and drowned. The mishap took place at Musadiha village of Kesharpur panchayat under Pattamundai police limits of the district.
In a similar incident in Balangir district, a youth of Kandhapalli under Sadar police limits was bathing in the village pond after Holi festivities, but he slipped into deep water and drowned. The body was fished out. However, his identity is yet to be ascertained.
In Balasore district, a minor girl drowned in a village pond at Andara under Sora police limits after Holi celebrations.
In another incident, some youth after playing Holi were taking a bath in Luna river near Nagamatha in Nischintakoili area of Cuttack district in the afternoon. One of them went missing and his body was later fished out by fire service personnel after a search operation.
In a similar tragedy, one person drowned to death after Holi revelry when he was taking a bath in Mahanadi river at Dihasahi in Choudwar area of Cuttack distric.
Another youth of Nuapatana Madhusetu near Choudwar in Cuttack was bathing in Mahanadi after playing Holi. He has remained missing while a search operation to rescue him is being carried out. His identity is yet to be ascertained, sources added.
