Bhubaneswar: The police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the man, identified as Yudhisthir Soren of Jarana Sahi in Mancheswar of the city, lured the 9-year-old girl with snacks and took her to a deserted place where he raped her on Monday night. The accused, who works as a daily labourer, is the neighbour of the victim.
Some locals passing by the place heard the girl crying in pain and took her to her house. After the girl told her parents about the incident, they filed a complaint at Mancheswar police station on Monday. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act.
“The girl’s father, in his police complaint, accused Soren of committing the crime. After registering the case, the police arrested Soren on the basis of the complaint,” said Bhubaneswar Zone-4 ACP, Sanjeev Satapathy.
While Soren was forwarded to the court on Tuesday, the girl was sent for medical examination. She will be produced before the magistrate for recording of her statement, the ACP added.
