6 Arrested For Sword Attack On 3 Youths, Weapons Seized In Odisha’s Puri
Puri: Police have arrested 6 persons on Saturday evening for their alleged involvement in the sword attack on 3 youths at Bada Danda Market Chhak in Odisha’s Puri town in the morning.
Speaking to media persons, additional SP of Puri Mihir Panda said the police have registered cases against 9 persons on the basis of the separate complaints filed by two groups of people who were engaged in the violent clash.
Following investigation, the police arrested Sunil Das and Rabi Narayan Patra of Chudanga Sahi, Bhimsen Baral and Chhabi Pradhan of Kanthapur, Gopal Muni of Upar Malisahi and Trilochan Behera of Khadipadar.
Sameer Das, Hrusikesh Panda and Khageswar Sahu, who sustained injuries in the clash, are undergoing treatment in the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack under tight security. While the six arrested persons have been forwarded to the court, the cases have also been filed against the injured persons. The three injured would be forwarded to court after their discharge from the hospital, said the additional SP.
He further said two swords and three mobile phones have been recovered from the accused persons. The group clash took place due to past rivalry, he added.
The incident took place while the three injured youths were having tea at the market around 6 am. A group of 18 youths came on motorcycles to the spot and attacked the trio with swords.
Three special teams had been formed to nab the accused and the police were able to arrest all the 9 persons involved in the clash within 10 hours of the incident, Panda said.
