Karnataka Bribery Case: BJP MLA Arrested
Bengaluru: Hours after the Karnataka High Court dismissed his bail application, BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa was arrested on Monday.
The Channagiri MLA is prime accused in a bribery case pertaining to alleged demand and receipt of bribes for allotting contract for supplying chemicals to the state-run Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL).
The high court had reserved its judgment on the anticipatory bail plea last week.
Subsequent raids by Lokayukta unearthed cash worth Rs 8.23 crore.
Virupakshappa, who resigned as KSDL chairman, has been charged with demanding bribe through his son Prashanth Madal.
The matter came to light when his son was caught accepting bribe of Rs 40 lakh in his office. He was arrested on March 2.
Over Rs 7 crore in cash was seized from Virupakshappa’s residence thereafter.
