Heatwave In Odisha May Ebb After April 15; Rain & Thunderstorm Likely Next Week
Bhubaneswar: The maximum day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and 3 to 5°C above normal at a few places in Odisha during the next 2 days due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
The MeT office has also issued yellow warning for two days. While heatwave is likely to prevail at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and Angul till 8.30 am on April 15, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, and Boudh may experience intense heat during the subsequent 24 hours.
People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside between 11 am and 2 pm.
Notably, six places in the state had recorded 37 degree Celsius and above by 11.30 this morning. Jharsuguda had recorded the highest maximum day temperature of 39.8 degree Celsius followed by Keonjhar (39.2), Sambalpur (38.4), Chandbali (38), Bhubaneswar (37.8) and Balasore (37).
The IMD had earlier tweeted that the intense heatwave sweeping Odisha is likely to ebb after April 15. It has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorm activity at one or two places in Khurda, Cuttack and 14 other districts on Sunday. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely at isolated places in Odisha on April 17 and again on April 18, it added.
According to the extended range outlook, isolated rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds is likely in Odisha during the second part of the week, starting April 13. It further said that maximum temperature is likely fall gradually by 2-3⁰ C in most parts of the country from April 20. “It is likely to remain 2-3⁰ C below normal in most parts of India, except northeast India, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, where it is likely to be normal to above normal.” it said.

Thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh and Kalahandi
APRIL 18
Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Kandhamal.
However, isolated heat wave conditions is likely in parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh during some days of the week, it added.
