Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID-19 caseload in Odisha moved close to 500-mark on Saturday with detection of as many as 489 new cases in the state in the last 24 hours.
The total COVID-19 tally in the state mounted to 2697 with the detection of 489 fresh cases, official soruces said, adding that a total of 203 patients recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.
Earlier, the state reported 387 and 431 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and Friday respectively. The state had reported 377 on Wednesday, while the daily caseloads on Tuesday and Monday were 269 and 268 respectively.
The country as a whole witnessed slight rise in the total number of COVID infections with 12,193 fresh Covid-19 cases being detected against against 11,692 the previous day. On Thursday, as many as 12,591 new cases were reported in the country. The active caseload currently stands at 67,556 in the country.
Though the Centre’s data show that there is a spike in COVID cases in the country, there has been no report of exponential growth. There is only a slight growth in the number of cases, said Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra said
Hospitalisation and death rates have drastically come down during the current spell of COVID surge, he said.
The state has so far confirmed three deaths due to the virus this year.
