Bengaluru: A pregnant woman delivered a baby at a polling station in Karnataka’s Ballari on Wednesday, PTI reported.
The 23-year-old had arrived at her designated polling booth in Ballari’s Kurlagindi village to cast her vote in the Karnataka Assembly elections when she went into labour.
Female officials and women voters who were around realised the importance of the situation and helped in the delivery in what was a very rare incident, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The state recorded a 72.67% voter turnout on Wednesday.
As per the exit polls, Congress has the edge in a tight contest with the ruling BJP.
Most of the exit polls gave Congress the edge, with three of them projecting a clear majority for the grand old party in the 224-member state Assembly. One exit poll has kept BJP ahead of Congress, while some have predicted a hung assembly with Congress likely to get more seats.
JD(S) could play kingmaker in case of a hung verdict, with most exit polls projecting around 22-25 seats on average.
Counting of votes will take place on May 13.
