Bhubaneswar Sizzles As Mercury Shoots Up By 8.3°C, Sambalpur Hottest At 46.1°C

According to evening bulletin of the regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the temperature breached 45 degree Celsius in two places. While Sambalpur was the hottest place with 46.1 degree Celsius, it was followed by Hirakud with 45.6 degree Celsius and Sonepur 45 degree Celsius on the day.

As many as 10 places reeled under 45 degree Celsius or more. After Sonepur, Bargarh recorded 44.9 degree Celsius, while Balangir, Boudh, Titlagarh, Nayagarh and Talcher registered 44 degree Celsius.

In Bhubaneswar, mercury read 44.3 degree Celsius which is 8.3 degree more than the normal temperature, the IMD said. In Cuttack, it was 43.2 degree.

The IMD has forecast no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 5 days at many
places in the state. Rather, it is likely to be above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places during the period.

Issuing orange warning, the Met office said heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal,Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khurda.
