Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has received an anonymous letter threatening an Odisha-like train tragedy, which claimed 293 lives, on the Hyderabad-Delhi route.
Railway officials have informed Hyderabad police about the letter received on June 30, and issued a red alert across all zones. “Investigation is on to trace the person who sent the letter,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Hyderabad North Zone Chandana Deepti told IANS.
On Monday, SCR General Manager (GM) Arun Kumar Jain conducted a safety review meeting with Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Manager’s (DRMs) of all six divisions (Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded) joined it through video conference.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), in its probe report on triple train crash in Odisha on June 2, found that wrong labelling of wires inside the level-crossing location box had remained undetected for years and this led to a mix-up during maintenance work. While the signalling department has primarily been blamed for the accident, the station master, who is part of the operations department, has also been named for failing to detect “abnormal behaviour” of the signalling control system that could have prevented the tragedy.
