Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, SSP Rajeev Mishra and DM Chandrashekhar Singh have been accused of ‘murdering’ a BJP leader.

Opposition party BJP has alleged that one of its leaders, Vijay Singh, lost his life and many others were injured when police resorted to lathicharge on Thursday in Patna.

BJP worker Krishna Singh has filed a complained in Patna’s civil court.

The saffron party has also constituted a four-member committee of party MPs to probe Bihar Police’s alleged use of excessive force on its leaders during a protest march in the state’s capital.

While BJP said its Jehanabad district general secretary Singh died because of injuries sustained in a “brutal” lathicharge by the police, the administration claimed that CCTV footage showed the deceased was not at Dak Bungalow crossing when “mild” use of force was resorted to.

The authorities also claimed that doctors at the hospital found no injury marks on Singh’s body.

The complaint has been filed under sections 302, 307, 341 and 323 and other relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Comparing Nitish with Brigadier General Reginald Dyer, who is considered to be the mastermind of 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, BJP demanded the Bihar CM’s resignation.

The police lathicharge during the Vidhan Sabha march was a “pre-planned conspiracy” of the state government to instil fear among people and prevent them from holding protests for their rights and justice, maintained BJP.

“It was the same as the Britishers had done with people protesting against the Simon Commission,” said Union Minister of state for Home Nityanand Rai.

“The kind of barbarism witnessed on the streets of Patna was a reminder of General Dyer who is known for his barbaric way of crushing those demanding justice,” he added.

“Indeed, Jungle Raj 3.0 has arrived in Bihar,” the BJP MP said.

Two days ago, police burst tear gas shells and used water canons to disperse BJP workers who tried to march towards Bihar Vidhan Sabha in protest against state government’s teacher recruitment policy and to press for the resignation of Tejashwi.
