Odisha: HC Asks Cuttack Civic Body To Rid NLUO Campus Of Stray Dogs By 4PM Today

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to remove stray dogs from the campus of National Law University of Odisha (NLUO) in Odisha’s Cuttack city by 4 pm on Tuesday.

The division bench of Chief Justice Subhasis Talapatra and Justice Savitri Ratho took up the PIL filed by NLUO on Monday as it felt the case required urgent disposal. The CMC has been directed to submit a compliance report on Wednesday.

A first-year student, Aditya Ray Choudhury, was chased by around 15 to 20 stray dogs 5 times during last month and last attacked on August 26. Since then, he has been suffering from acute anxiety and unstable blood pressure, the petition, demanding removal of stray dogs from the campus, said, adding that the dogs on the campus had become more aggressive due to the ongoing mating season.

These dogs have migrated from nearby locations like Brajabiharipur and Naraj.

The petition further stated that a request letter in this regard was sent to the CMC’s city health officer on August 7.
