Bhubaneswar: A research scholar of Zoological Survey of India, Gopalpur, in Odisha has died of suspected dengue.

The deceased has been identified as Rajat Patel (30), son of Jatindra Patel of Odisha’s Balangir town. He had registered for his PhD at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.

According to reports, Rajat had returned home after being diagnosed with dengue a few days ago. He was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital at Balangir on Friday. Rajat was shifted to a private hospital at Bargarh as his condition deteriorated and he breathed his last around 4 pm.

Reports further said that Raja had qualified for the post of Assistant Professor in a recruitment examination conducted by the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) recently.

Notably, Odisha has recorded over 8,000 dengue cases so far this year, the highest in last five years.
