Over 6,300 Kg Of Ganja Worth Rs 2 Crore Destroyed In Odisha’s Berhampur
Berhampur: Police disposed of more than 6,300 kg of ganja and 260 gram of brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore on the court’s direction in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Excise Intelligence and Enforcement Bureau (EI&EB), Berhampur and Gosaninuagaon and Digapahandi police stations under Berhampur police district had seized 6,340.7 kg ganja and 268 gram of brown sugar over the time.
Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said the seized contraband was destroyed at designated incinerator as per the guidelines of NDPS Act to save space in police stations and courts.
“The ganja and brown sugar were seized in 126 cases of EI&EB, 42 cases of Excise department and 4 cases of the two police stations. Those were destroyed at Biomedical Waste Incinerator Plant located at Common Biomedical Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility in Sheragada on the recommendation of the District Drug Disposal Committee following due procedure and court guidelines on,” said the SP.
Members of the Berhampur District Drugs Disposal Committee under the Chairmanship of SP Berhampur along with other members including SP Excise and Seragada tehasildar were present.
Previously, 4972.5 kg of ganja and 9.48 gram of brown sugar had been destroyed. Total 11,313.2 kg ganja and 277.48 kg brown sugar have been destroyed at the same facility so far, according to official sources.
