BMC Identifies 21 Places To Set Up Firecracker Stalls For Diwali In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has earmarked 21 open places in the city where the traders can open their temporary stalls to sell firecrackers for Diwali.

This was decided at a preparatory meeting to ensure “Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali” in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das.

It was also decided that several teams comprising officials from Odisha State Pollution Control Board, BMC and Police department will carry out inspection of the shops to ensure the safety measures as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.

They would ensure that the shops have their own garbage boxes to dispose of used crackers and wastes. Besides, the shop-owners should keep the area with 5-meter radius of their space clean and follow all fire safety measures.

Besides, food safety team including SI and Ward Officer will carry out regular checking of sweet shops and temporary stalls set up for the festival. The officials will move around the city with the mobile Food Testing Lab for on-the-spot testing of the food items.

The BMC has appealed to celebrate a green and clean Diwali without single-use plastic materials and keep the city’s environment clean.
