Sudden Death: 2 Passengers On Puri-Delhi Purushottam Express Die Due To Emergency Brake

Ranchi: Train accidents are always tragic. But when travellers lose their lives because of a freak mishap, it’s even more painful.

Two passengers on the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express suffered sudden death following a big jerk when the emergency brake was applied near Parsabad, between Gomoh and Koderma stations, in Jharkhand’s Koderma district on Saturday.

The driver had to use the emergency brake after the overhead electric wire fell on the train. The incident took place near Parsabad between Gomoh and Koderma railway stations at 12:05 pm.

“As the electric supply stopped all of a sudden, an emergency brake was applied to stop the train and two people died due to jerk,” Senior Divisional Manager of Dhanbad Railway Division Ameresh Kumar informed.

During the time of the mishap, the Delhi-bound Purushottam Express was travelling at a speed of 130 kmph.

Train operations were disrupted for more than four hours in the Dhanbad division following the incident.

The stranded Purushottam Express was transported by a diesel engine to Gomoh, from where the train continued its journey to the national Capital, powered by an electric engine.
