Malkangiri: In a major success in the battle against left wing extremists (LWEs), a woman Maoist involved in around 21 cases and carrying Rs one lakh reward on her head surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
The woman, identified as Ungi Madvi alias Roshni of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, had joined the banned CPI (Maoist) in 2016, police said.
She was now working as a party member of Mahupadar of Kanger Ghati of Darbha division of DKSZC. She decided to give up the path of violence and return to the social mainstream after being disillusioned with the activities of the outlawed outfit.
She was involved in several Maoist activities and acts of violence, including an IED blast in Odisha. She was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani said that the woman was involved in at least 21 cases of violent acts, including IED blasts and ambushes on security forces.
Following her surrender, she will be rehabilitated as per the rehabilitation scheme of the state government, he said.
Roshni decided to leave the banned outfit as its leaders were torturing the people while women are not being respected in the outlawed outfit, the SP said.
