New Delhi: Mild tremors were reported in several parts of Delhi NCR and North India on Thursday afternoon after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan.
The epicentre for the quake, which struck at 2.50 pm IST, was 241 kilometres northeast of Kabul, National Center for Seismology said in a post on X.
The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 6.4 on the Richter scale, and the epicentre 44 km SSW of Jurm in Afghanistan. On the other hand, Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the 6 magnitude earthquake struck at 2.20 pm (local time) in the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 213 km.
According to Geo News, tremors were also felt in Lahore, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cities. Punjab’s Sargodha, Khushab and its surroundings, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakkar, and Nowshera and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad also experience quake jolts.
There were no immediate reports of any injury or destruction.
Notably, a series of earthquakes shook Afghanistan last year, killing more than 1,000 people.
