Chandrababu Naidu Named Main Accused In AP Fibernet Scam Case; Check Details

Hyderabad: Andhra police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) has filed a chargesheet in the AP Fibernet Scam case in which it has named former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu as the main accused.

The chargesheet in the Rs 114-crore scam was filed in Vijayawada ACB Court.

Net India (Hyderabad) MD V Hari Krishna Prasad and IRTS officer K Sambasiva Rao have been named as the other accused persons.

“Naidu, the then chief minister, was holding the portfolio of the Energy, Infrastructure and Investment department. He personally recommended getting the fiber net project executed,” the CID said in a statement.

According to police, the tender process was manipulated to allot a work order in Phase 1 of the AP Fibernet Project of Rs 330 crore to a favoured company.

The alleged manipulation took place when the TDP was in power, between 2014 and 2019.

According to the chargesheet, Naidu approved the estimate of the Fibernet project without any survey being done for prices and standards to be followed.

The CID mentioned that the accused persons allegedly channelised misappropriated funds through companies allegedly belonging to their associates using fake invoices.

Last month, Andhra Pradesh High Court granted anticipatory bail to Chandrababu in three cases — Inner Ring Road case, excise policy case and sand mining case.

He was arrested by police in September after being accused in the skill development case.
