Jammu: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has airlifted over 700 passengers stranded between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Saturday.
As many as 514 passengers were airlifted from Jammu to Leh in two sorties of IAF aircraft, while 223 people were flown from Srinagar to Leh in another sortie. The total number of people who have been airlifted between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh this week stands at 1,251, according to a TNIE report.
The IAF had airlifted 331 passengers in separate sorties of AN-32, also known as Kargil courier, between Jammu and Kashmir to Kargil, on March 4.
The IAF launched Kargil courier on January 22 following closure of the 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway due to heavy snowfall. The service operates three days a week between Jammu and Srinagar, and twice a week between Srinagar and Kargil to facilitate the stranded passengers.
