Odisha Cabinet Approves 21 New & Upgradation Transmission Projects Of OPTCL
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet on Saturday approved a proposal of taking up 21 new and up-gradation transmission projects by OPTCL within five years under phase-II of Odisha Transmission System Strengthening Programme with 30% equity support from the state government.
OPTCL, being the designated State Transmission Utility (STU) is responsible for creation of necessary infrastructure for smooth transmission of power.
With several new power intensive industries coming up in the state and growth in over-all power demand, the necessity of creation of new grid sub-station and up-gradation of the existing transmission infrastructure was felt, Chief Secretary P K Jena said.
Accordingly, OPTCL is taking up eight GSSs along with associated transmission lines which are financially non-remunerative under phase-I of Odisha Transmission System Strengthening Programme (OTSSP).
In order to ensure steady and reliable power supply to upcoming industries such as Paradeep Plastic Park, Angul Aluminium Park, Bhadrak Textile Park, Neulapoi Industrial Estate etc. and to augment the existing infrastructure in line with present demand, OPTCL has come up with a proposal to take up six Grid Sub-stations, up-gradation of existing GSS and transmission lines, implementation of SAS (Sub-station Automation System) etc. which are financially remunerative under phase-II of OTSSP.
The estimated cost of the phase is Rs. 1845.76 Cr to be met with 30% (Rs. 553.73 Cr) equity from the State Government and the balance 70% (Rs. 1292.03 Cr) will be arranged by OPTCL. The projects will be implemented under Chief Minister’s Power Development Programme (CMPDP) within a period of 5 years i.e from FY 2023-24 to 2027-28.
