Bhubaneswar: The BJD, which believes in the policy of “use and throw”, tied up with BJP when necessary and broke up after the purpose was served, said saffron party leader Debasish Nayak.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, former minister Nayak said it has been the policy, purpose and character of chief minister Naveen Patnaik to use other parties for his political advantage.
“During the formation of BJD, Naveen forged an alliance with BJP riding on its popularity and formed the government in Odisha. After the BJD got a foothold and acceptance from the people, he dumped the BJP in 2009,” Nayak said.
He alleged that the BJD president was trying to follow the same path for the ensuing elections also. “Sensing people’s mood against BJD and rising popularity of BJP, he deliberately spread the rumour of alliance with us though he spoke in the public that he had aversion towards lies and rumour in politics,” said Nayak.
Holding the BJD responsible for lack of economic growth in the state, the BJP leader said there has been no improvement in people’s conditions since the regional party came to power 24 years back. Around 41.6% of educated youths remain unemployed till date, according to ILO report, he added.
“The meetings, conclaves and roadshows organised by the government for inviting investment for industrial growth of the state are only meant to hoodwink the people. Odisha continues to remain far behind other states in this sector also,” Nayak claimed.
