Bhubaneswar: People from Bhubaneswar can again directly fly to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia visa-free with AirAsia’s no-stop flight service between the two cities.
According to sources, the celebratory first flight took off on May 28, from Biju Patnaik Airport at 12.50 pm and landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 7.05 am local time. The passengers were accorded a warm reception upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, as representatives from Tourism Malaysia, AirAsia’s Senior Management, and a host of Allstars distributing exclusive goodie bags among them.
This direct route will operate thrice weekly, with flights departing Bhubaneswar every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11.50 pm and reaching Kuala Lumpur at 6.10 am. The fares start from Rs 5,599.
To celebrate this resumption, AirAsia had earlier announced a sale with ticket priced at Rs 4,999 from Bhubaneswar to Kuala Lumpur till June 18. “The promotional fares are available for booking on airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app, which was previously known as ‘airasia Superapp’,” it added.
Director of Tourism Malaysia-Mumbai Noriah Jaafar emphasised that the new direct flights was as a testament to their commitment to promoting tourism and strengthening bilateral relations between India and Malaysia. Senior Sales Manager at AirAsia Jagjit Singh Oberoi highlighted AirAsia’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options.
The airline had suspended this service, which was introduced in 2017, following the COVID pandemic. It had also discontinued direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Bangkok in 2019 after a year’s service.
