Domestic Abuse Case: Trouble Mounts For Odia Actress Riya Dey As Child Rights Panel Orders Probe
Bhubaneswar: Trouble mounted for Odia actress Riya Dey as the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) ordered a probe into allegation of house caretaker’s torture against her.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the Commission on Thursday directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar, Khurda District Labour Officer (DLO) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) to conduct a probe into the allegations and submit a report by July 25.
The officials have been told to ascertain the age, educational qualification and health condition of the victim during the investigation. The DLO and DCPO have been directed to take steps for the rehabilitation of the victim, sources said.
Earlier, the case filed at Chandrasekharpur police station in Bhubaneswar was shifted to Bidanasi police station in Cuttack.
The caretaker, in her complaint, alleged that the actor and her husband subjected her to domestic violence. The couple often locked her in their house at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack besides physically and mentally torturing her. Riya’s husband even hit her with beer bottle in inebriated condition, she alleged.
However, she managed to escape from their house while the couple were not present on Monday. She came to the house of a known person, Madhuri, staying in Chandrasekharpur. On not finding Madhuri, she was crying on a pavement when some local people came to her help and informed the child protection team.
