Cong MLA Subal Sahu loses battle with cancer

Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA Subal Sahu passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. He was 56.

According to reports, the legislator was suffering from colorectal cancer, brain metastatic and bone metastatic. After being treated in Mumbai, he had returned to Bhubaneswar recently. He was reportedly suffering from fever for last three days and admitted to AMRI Hospital here for treatment.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda and several other political leaders mourned his death and conveyed their deep sympathy to the bereaved family.


Born on March 11, 1961, Subal was elected from Bijepur constituency of Bargarh district as a member of Indian National Congress thrice (2004, 2009, 2014). He started his career as a lawyer. A noted volley ball player Sahu had represented Odisha in national championship in 1981-81 and 1983-84 from Sambalpur University.
OPCC president Prasad Harichandan described Sahu as a mass leader. “His demise is an irreparable loss not only for Congress but also for the people of state,” he said.
