Topsy Turvy Trains: Here’s List Of 7 Derailments In Past 13 Days

Bhubaneswar: The derailment of Howrah-Mumbai Mail in Jharkhand, which claimed two lives and left 20 injured, is the 7th railway accident in the past 13 days.

Here’s a timeline

18 July: At least 31 people were injured and four died after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. Eight coaches of the train had derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations on the Gonda-Gorakhpur section of the Northeast Railway/

19 July: A day after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in UP’s Gonda, a wagon of a goods train derailed between Valsad and Surat stations in Gujarat. But there were no reports of anyone getting injured. The train was ‘re-railed’ more than two hours after the derailment at 3. 05 pm

20 July: A goods train derailed near Amroha station, disrupting Delhi-Lucknow rail line for sometime. No casualties were reported. 12 coaches, of which some were carrying chemicals, had derailed.

21 July: Three wagons of a goods train had derailed at the Alwar railway station causing obstruction of Mathura section movement of other trains. However, no loss of life or injury was reported. An available rescue engine cleared the tracks.

21 July: A goods train derailed in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Sunday. The incident took place in the Ranaghat area around 6 pm while siding. Near the IW gate of Ranaghat station, the goods train was sliding to a loop line when it got derailed. No injuries were reported.

26 July: Eight wagons of a goods train derailed at Mancheswar Station yard in Bhubaneswar. The derailment affected train traffic and led to cancellation, short termination and rescheduling of some services. There was no loss of life or property.

30 July: At least two people died and 20 others were injured after about 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Jharkhand during the wee hours. The Mumbai-bound train derailed near Chakradharpur, between Rajkharswan West Outer and Barabamboo, in Chakradharpur division around 3:45 am.
