Bhubaneswar: An increasing number of dengue cases in Odisha have raised concerns. Approximately 2,000 positive cases of the vector-borne disease have been reported in the state so far.

About 500 positive cases of dengue have been reported in Khurda alone, followed by Sundargarh, Rourkela, Balangir, and Cuttack.

The state government has swung into action and directed district collectors to ensure preparedness to combat the spread of dengue.

Director of Public Health, Dr Nilakantha Mishra said, “Preventive measures are being implemented in locations of dengue outbreak with the assistance of urban bodies. Efforts are on to properly diagnose and treat dengue patients.”

As many as 13 positive cases were detected out of 192 samples tested in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Capital Hospital authorities said that two special wards for treatment of dengue-affected patients have been set up.

“While 14 patients are being treated in one ward, there are no patients in the other ward. The conditions of all the patients undergoing treatment at the hospital are stable,” said Dr Dhananjay Das, Deputy Superintendent of Capital Hospital.
