Kolkata Medic’s Rape-Murder: CCTV Footage Shows Accused Staring At Victim Day Before Crime
New Delhi: CCTV footage shows that Sanjay Roy, the accused in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case was present near the 31-year-old victim a day before the crime.
Sources told CNN-News18 that during his interrogation by Kolkata Police, Roy confessed that he had observed the victim at the chest medicine ward on August 8, a day before the crime. CCTV footage of the ward also corroborates that Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer who had easy access to the hospital was in the ward at around 11 am, the same time when the victim and four other junior doctors were present in the ward.
“The CCTV footage captures Roy glaring towards them,” the sources added, according to the report.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is taking on record the statements of the four doctors to understand if anyone observed Roy in the ward. Evidence so far suggests the victim entered the seminar hall at around 1 am on August 9. She was last seen at 2.30 am when, according to sources, a junior doctor revealed speaking to her at the seminar hall. The doctor added that the 31-year-old “went back to sleep” after their conversation.
Roy has been captured on CCTV, entering the hospital at 4 am and the agency suspects that the crime is likely to have been committed around this time.
Sources in the probing agency said Roy appears to be a “sexual pervert” with “animal-like instincts” who has shown no remorse during his questioning. While confessing to the crime, narrated the sequence of events without a hint of emotion during his psychometric tests, according to the report.
