Bhubaneswar: Rain accompanied by thundershowers and lightning is likely to pound lash 16 districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar city, on Saturday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
Issuing the nowcast warning at 1.45 pm, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar sounded orange alert for four districts, including Bhubaneswar city, and yellow message for 12 others.
The weather agency said moderate rain/thundershowers with one or two intense spells may affect some parts of Puri, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur and Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city) within next three hours. Orange warning was issued for these districts during the period.
The rain may cause water logging in low lying area, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas. People have been advised to avoid movement in affected area and do arrangement for drainage of excess water.
In another message, it issued yellow warning of light rain/thundershower with lightning in some parts of districts of Gajapati, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Angul and Dhenkanal within next three hours.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike
