Landlord’s Son Arrested For Installing Spy Cameras In Woman Tenant’s Apartment In Delhi

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man in Delhi’s Shakarpur has been arrested for allegedly installing spy cameras and filming a woman tenant in her apartment without her knowledge. The man, identified as Karan, is the son of the building’s owner in which the woman lived as a tenant.

During the investigation, the police confiscated one spy camera and two laptops from Karan, which he had used to store the videos. Karan, who has a disability, has been charged under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which carries a minimum sentence of one year in prison.

The victim, who is preparing for civil services, grew suspicious after she noticed some unusual activity on her WhatsApp. She found an unaccounted laptop connected to her WhatsApp. She logged out of all devices and wondered if she was being surveilled with hidden devices.

After a thorough inspection of her apartment, she found a hidden camera inside the bulb holder in her bathroom. She reported the matter to police who searched the apartment thoroughly. They found two hidden cameras in the bulb holder.

The woman told the police that she frequently left her keys with Karan when she travelled, including three months ago during her visit to her hometown in Uttar Pradesh.

During questioning, Karan confessed that he had exploited this access to install the cameras. He had bought three spy cameras from a local electronics market, placing one in the bedroom and another in the bathroom.

These cameras were not connected to the internet and stored footage on memory cards. To retrieve the recordings, Karan often requested the apartment keys, claiming he needed them for electrical repairs.
