Ayurveda Treatment Set To Be Included In Central Govt’s Ayushman Bharat Scheme

New Delhi: There’s good news for those who follow ayurvedic treatment.

India’s Ministry of Ayush will soon introduce 170 ayurvedic packages under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme, covering ailments from common cold to cancer.

“The Ministry convened a review meeting to incorporate Ayurvedic packages under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to incorporate Ayush treatment into mainstream healthcare. Under this, 170 packages have been finalised and this number can be increased as per the requirement,” Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav said.

The ministry has set up a Strategic Purchasing Committee to finalise cost structures and guarantee the affordability of Ayush treatments under the programme.

Treatment packages of unani, siddha, homeopathy and naturopathy, and yoga will also be incorporated in the AB-PMJAY scheme.

The packages will include medicines, treatment centres, wellness programmes and operative procedures.

Treatments will be provided as part of indoor Panchakarma services, which include stay, diet, lifestyle guidance, and yoga.

The initiative is part of the larger AB-PMJAY scheme, which offers cashless health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.
