New Delhi: Doctor’s association FAIMA has announced a nationwide hunger strike on October 9, demanding justice for the RG Kar case victim.
In a bid to support the ongoing protest by junior doctors in Kolkata against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Bengal’s RG Kar Hopsital, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) on Monday announced a nationwide hunger strike on October 9.
According to reports, the doctors’ association held a meeting on Monday. “We have been in close contact with the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front and are united in our stance,” said Suvrankar Datta, President of FAIMA, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
After extensive deliberation, Datta claimed that the association decided to organise a nationwide hunger strike in solidarity with the Bengal colleagues.
The hunger strike was aimed at amplifying the voices of the junior doctors, who have been demanding justice for the RG Kar victim and safety and security measures for the medical professionals other essential reforms.
The association has also called on healthcare workers across the country to join the strike on Wednesday.
