Two Bahraich Murder Suspects Injured In Police Encounter Near Nepal Border; Total Arrests 5

Lucknow: Two of the accused in Bahraich murder case were shot in the legs while trying to escape to Nepal, Uttar Pradesh Police said in a statement on Thursday.

Those shot in the legs by police have been identified as Mohammed Talib and Mohammed Sarfaraz. They have been admitted to the district hospital.

“Five main suspects have been arrested. Based on information from two of them, the police went to recover the murder weapon that they had hidden near Nanpara. A loaded gun, along with another weapon, was hidden there, which was recovered. In retaliatory firing, two suspects were injured and medical treatment is being provided to them,” Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla told PTI.

She identified the other three accused as Abdul Hameed, the main accused in the killing of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra in a violent clash over the playing of music during Durga Puja procession on October 13, his son Mohammed Faheem and Mohammed Afzal.

Ram Gopal was allegedly caught by members of Hamid’s household and shot dead. His post-mortem report revealed over 30 pellet injuries in his chest and death due to “shock and excessive bleeding”.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hameed’s daughter Rukhsar appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure safety of her family members. “My paternal home is in Maharajganj. My father and brothers have been accused of the death of a man who died in violence that broke out on Sunday… On October 14, an STF team reached my in-law’s house and searched. When they did not find anything, they detained my husband and brother-in-law. Since then, there was no information about them. On October 16, I got the information that my father and my brothers have been arrested in Dharam Kanta… I am afraid that they have been killed in a fake encounter,” she was quoted as saying by the news agency.
