Cobra Trapped In Plastic Toy In Odisha’s Puri Freed By Veterinarians After 10 Days
Bhubaneswar: A deadly cobra, which remained trapped in a plastic toy in Satyabadi area of Odisha’s Puri district, was successfully freed from the entrapment by veterinarians.
As per information, Santosh Behera of Satyabadi area heard an unusual noise coming from the backyard of his house. Following the sound, he found a 4 ft long yellowish snake trapped in debris heap.
Unable to free itself, the snake was trying desperately making efforts and creating a peculiar sound. On being informed, Snake Helpline volunteer Susant Behera reached the spot and found the snake trapped in a plastic toy and unable to move properly.
Susant carefully removed the trapped cobra from the debris but could not free it from the entrapment. The plastic toy was tightly griping the snake’s body at 2 points.
The snake was taken to the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry. Dr Indramani Nath, Professor, Veterinary Surgery & Radiology conducted X-ray to rule out any internal injury in the snake’s body. The plastic toy was then cut opened from the snake’s body with the help of surgical scissors.
Antiseptic lotion was applied to the local area although there was no apparent visible wound visible. Prof. Nath said, “The deadly cobra would have been trapped in such a condition at least 10 days. Had the entrapment not removed the snake would surely be died starving. The snake will be released after a day of observation as there is no wound on the body”.
General Secretary of Snake Helpline Subhendu Mallik said, “This is another example of faulty solid waste management. Human errors often cause harm to wildlife and environment as well.”
