Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal (BoB) by November 6, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) extended range forecast.

“There is likelihood of formation of a trough of low over south BoB during week 1 (till November 6) with formation of a low-pressure area over southwest BoB towards the end of week 1. There is also low probability of its intensification into a depression over southwest BoB off Tamil Nadu coast during first half of week 2 (November 7-11),” it said.

The IMD’s dynamical statistical model indicated 30-40% probability of cyclogenesis over southwest BoB off Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts/Comorin area during week 1 and 20-30% (low) probability of cyclogenesis over southwest BoB off Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts and 30-40% probability of cyclogenesis over southeast BoB & adjoining south Andaman sea during the week 2.

Under its influence, a fresh spell of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and Kerala from November 7-11, it added.

In its weekly forecast for Odisha, the weather agency said that light to moderate rain/thunderstorm may occur at one or two places in Kendrapadada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on November 1 and Malkangiri and Koraput on November 2.

Dry weather may prevail during the subsequent 3 days. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm may resume again at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on November 6-7.
