New Delhi: You can call it the American dream — be in India and live in an ‘American City’.
Doesn’t sound convincing?
Well, such a proposal has been received by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The city, proposed to be built near the upcoming Noida International Airport – also known as Jewar airport — in UP’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, will have campuses of American educational institutions along with business, commercial, institutional, hospital and school facilities.
US-based consultancy firm Blue Sky Vantage, which helps American companies expand into new markets, has given the proposal to develop the city across 1,200 acres in four Noida sectors — 22D, 22E, 5 and 5A, reported The Times of India.
The proposal has attracted interest from an American delegation of 9 senators and representatives from top universities who were scouting for land in Indian cities for investments in education, business and community projects.
“They plan to invest $4 billion over the next five to six years. After visiting multiple cities, they recently came to GB Nagar and held meetings. Subsequently, they expressed their desire to set up an ‘American City’ over 1,200 acres. Of this, 1,000 acres will be designated for mixed land use, allowing business and commercial activities alongside institutions such as hospitals, schools, and other facilities,” TOI quoted YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh as saying.
YEIDA earlier received proposals to establish a ‘Korean City’ and a ‘Japanese City’ within the premises of Jewar airport.
Officials said a ‘Japanese City’ was previously announced on 395 hectares in Sector 5A and a ‘Korean City’ on another 365 hectares in Sector 4A.
These are for setting up electronic hubs which are expected to house companies manufacturing chips, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) equipment and cameras, along with residential units for company staff.
“They are being planned to be self-sufficient, with provisions for housing, schools, hospitals, and other essential amenities for Japanese and Korean citizens residing there,” an official told TOI.
