4 Arrested For Attack On Social Worker As ‘Revenge’ In Bhubaneswar, Weapons Seized
Bhubaneswar: Four persons have been arrested in connection with the near-fatal attack on a social worker, Siba Srichandan, in Palaspalli area under Airport police limits in Odisha capital on November 5, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra informed on Wednesday.
“We were able to apprehend four of the accused within two days of the incident. While three were directly involved in the attack, five others had helped them to commit the crime. Four have been arrested, and raids are being conducted to nab the remaining four,” he said.
The DCP identified those arrested as Debasis Nayak alias Salu, Sanjay Barik alias Sanju, Pramod Kumar Mahapatra alias Ganesh, the mastermind, and Vicky Nayak, all residents of Bhubaneswar. The motorcycle and two weapons used in the crime and mobile phones of the accused have also been seized. “The weapons will be sent for forensic analysis,” he said.
Mishra further stated that police have ascertained criminal antecedents of Debasis and Vicky and four and 10 cases are pending against them respectively.
He attributed the attack to personal enmity. “It was an act of revenge. A case was recently registered at Balianta police station in connection with an attack on Ganesh. He was unable identify the miscreants and suspected Siba Srichandan of plotting it,” the DCP added.
On Monday, three motorcycle-borne miscreants attacked Siba Srichandan, who was on a two-wheeler, with sharp weapons. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar by Airport police.
